Samantha had a big day at work. She’s back at her apartment, making dinner and feels a pang of loneliness. She pops open her laptop and finds that there are a few snuggle gatherings happening within walking distance.
Samantha knocks on a neighbor’s door and she’s welcomed into their living room. There are eight people already present – some are talking quietly, two are sitting on the couch holding hands, a few are giving and receiving shoulder massages. The vibe is safe, comfortable and healing.
Samantha is welcomed and within a few minutes she has received a well-deserved hug and a new friend is gently tickling her forearm – one of her favorite things since childhood.  Thirty minutes later, Samantha feels relaxed and rejuvenated. She says a few grateful good-byes and heads home to bed.
What if everyone in American could have access to human warmth, touch and connection like Samantha in this story? A few months ago, I blogged about how hungry I felt for simple, caring touch and promised that I would find this holy grail I’d heard of called the Cuddle or Snuggle Party. I’ve found it, and it’s as good as I had dreamed. This month, I’m hosting my own. Below is the description.  Does it sound as lovely to you as it does to me?
7:15-8:00PM      Arrive, relax, chat, snack (No latecomers after 8pm; please be sure leave yourself lots-o-time for parking)
8:00-8:30PM      Introductions and communication practice exercises
8:30-10:30PM    Cuddling, hanging out, enjoying the flow
10:30-11:00PM  Closing circle / clean up / good-byes
