I learned something valuable today from Cosmo magazine of all places – very unlike me! They interviewed Tristan Taormino – a sex educator and feminist pornographer – and now I am enlightened. Tristan suggests that just as I may find it important to learn about the fair trade practices of the food I eat or the clothes I wear, I can be just as discerning about the porn I watch. She advises that I consume porn with these qualities:
- Performers are paid well and treated well
- Consent, safety and well being is critical
- Content is diverse, nuanced and non-stereotypical
